When I went to sleep Thursday night, I was planning a day of mixed old snow, machine snow and rocks. What we got was a
great surprise. When we arrived at Alpine, we found at least six inches of new powder, as it snowed all day.
I even took out my cherished K2 Ginsu and kept it unscratched. There were fresh tracks to be had by all. The
mountain is not fully operational yet, but will be soon with a little more snow.
Good snow is one thing, but combine that with a friendly
staff and fun terrain and you are guaranteed a nice time. I had not been to Alpine for 10+ years and was not sure
what to expect. I found a six passenger high speed chair that fits more that a VW Bus (could there ever be a lift
line on this one?). There were several other high speed chairs, easy and hard runs, a big warm lodge, attractive women
everywhere (men too), and even a free ski check.
Since Tim and I are snowboarders and Alpine just started letting
us on last year, I wanted to see how the skiers and boarders were getting along. Everything was great! I saw great
ski racers, great free heel skiers, and great boarders all having fun together.
Obviously, my opinion of Alpine is high, but don't trust me
- go check it out yourself!
