. This past Saturday was the national "Take Your Daughter to the Slopes Day". Here at our local resort, Diamond Peak in Incline Village, Nevada, my nine-year old buddy Madeleine and I spent a fun day on the slopes getting to know each other. Madeleine's mother still hasn't mastered getting off the chair lift, so she arranged for me to take her daughter out while she saved a table in the lodge. Good thinking! I noticed right away that Diamond Peak is a very family oriented place since kids and parents were everywhere. It was a cold day, so we made many trips to the lodge, which was more packed than the slopes, to warm up and eat goodies that Madeleine's mom got for us. After munching out on curly fries, beef jerky sticks, and candy coated cashews (my favorite), we gathered our stuff and jumped on the Lakeview chair-lift. Madeleine's Dad and Dylan, her cool seven-year old brother (he made me type this), sped off down more advanced runs, taking eight foot jumps in the snowboard park. Madeleine and I watched them from the chair-lift. The people in the chair behind us were laughing and yelling...so Dylan, who thought they were yelling for him, opened up his little mouth wide and yelled back at them while speeding down the trail..."Cowabunga!"
. I'd describe myself as an intermediate snowboarder, while Madeleine would call herself an intermediate skier. We spent most of the day on "Delight" and "Popular" runs, but Madeleine's favorite run was the snowmobile path called "Freeway", because there weren't many people on it and we could speed along like it was a race track. Powder fell periodically throughout the day, adding a few inches of softness to all the runs. This made falling a lot easier, as there weren't any ice spots, and it wasn't cold enough to make the carved-up snow between the trees hard and icy.
. In closing, Madeleine and I will say that we had a great day out at Diamond Peak in Incline Village, north shore of Lake Tahoe. This is a family-friendly resort, but with enough excitement to keep thrill-seekers and view-seekers coming back for more.
